Training, coaching, mentoring and AiMZ Onboard. If your question isn’t here, just ask.
Start with where you are right now. New to yachting: First Step to First Season. A season or two in: Perfecting the Art. Preparing for Chief: The Art of Leading. Running the interior on your own: The Sole Stewardess.
If you’re still unsure, get in touch. We’ll talk through your experience and goals, and find the right fit.
No, not at all.
Students join AiMZ from a wide range of backgrounds. Whether you’re completely new to hospitality or bringing years of transferable experience, the training is designed to meet you where you are and develop the skills required for life on board.
Yes, absolutely.
Many of the qualities that make someone successful in yachting are developed long before stepping onto a yacht. Our role is to help you recognise those strengths, refine them, and apply them confidently within a professional yacht environment.
Both, they’re the same thing.
“Yacht stew” is simply the shorthand many crew use for “yacht stewardess,” and AiMZ’s training covers exactly the same ground either way you say it: interior operations, guest service, and the leadership skills to grow from stewardess to Chief.
Yes, always.
Choosing the right training is an important decision, and we’d much rather answer your questions before you book than have you feeling unsure. Whether you’d like to discuss the courses, your previous experience, changing careers or simply whether yachting is the right fit for you, you’re always welcome to get in touch.
Yes, it is.
Every course is delivered personally by Amy. There are no classrooms or group sessions, allowing the training to be tailored to your experience, learning style and individual goals.
Online or in person on Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
For those training in person, First Step to First Season also includes two exclusive on-location experiences, giving you the chance to see the standards, environment and lifestyle of the yachting industry up close. Wherever you choose to learn, the same one-to-one approach applies.
Yes. Accommodation is available for those training in person, please message us to make enquiries.
Each course page shows its starting price. In-person training, the on-location experiences and accommodation are quoted separately, so get in touch and we’ll talk you through the options.
Training is designed to be one-to-one, but if you’d like to train alongside a friend, get in touch and we’ll talk through whether a shared option would work for you both.
Yes, you will.
Students receive an AiMZ Certificate of Completion upon successfully completing the relevant training programme. First Step to First Season, Perfecting the Art and The Art of Leading are also independently CPD accredited, so your certificate stands as proof of a recognised, independently assessed professional standard.
Many students stay in touch after their course ends. If you’d like regular support as your career develops, get in touch and we’ll talk through a mentoring option that suits you.
A coaching approach runs through every course, so you’re not only learning the skills, you’re learning how to think them through. Dedicated coaching or mentoring sessions can be arranged separately, during or after a course.
Yes. Mentoring can be booked on its own, for experienced crew who want support or anyone exploring their next step.
A sole stewardess (or sole stew) is the only interior crew member onboard, responsible for the entire interior department, usually on a smaller yacht or superyacht.
Everything inside: housekeeping, laundry, guest service, the bar, guest preparation, provisioning, stock and turnarounds, and on some yachts crew meals as well.
Usually smaller yachts, often around 24 to 34 metres, and occasionally up to 37 metres. Sailing yachts with a sole stewardess can be larger.
Solid interior skills, plus the ability to work independently, good organisation and prioritisation, clear communication with the Captain and crew, and the confidence to make decisions on your own.
It’s not harder, the mindset is different. You carry the whole interior, and with that comes real independence, ownership and work that’s truly seen. Good systems make a huge difference.
With simple systems: daily and weekly rhythms, short checklists, a clear sense of what can wait, and laundry running in the background all day.
STCW basic safety training and the usual crew certificates, plus interior training built for the reality of working alone, which is what the AiMZ Sole Stewardess Specialist Course is designed to give you.
Yes. Being a sole stewardess isn't a step on the Chief Stewardess ladder. It's its own role, and many people come to it with a season or two of interior experience.
Absolutely. Many sole stews stay in the role long term, and are highly valued by the Captains and owners they work for.
By prioritising what matters, keeping systems simple, building rest into the day, protecting time off, and asking for help early. Looking after your own wellbeing is part of maintaining your standards.
AiMZ offers one-to-one sole stewardess training, plus sole stewardess coaching and ongoing mentoring, and the Sole Stewardess Support Handbook. Confidential crew support services such as Yacht Crew Help are also available.
Not at all.
It’s time spent with the team, understanding how things work and offering another experienced view. What happens next is the Chief Stewardess’s decision.
That’s entirely your call.
Some Chief Stewardesses introduce me openly as someone joining the team for a few days. Others prefer me simply to become part of the working environment. Either works.
Yes.
What’s seen and discussed stays between us, and the framework is written for the yacht and your team. What you share beyond that is up to you.
Then it’s a good time to come onboard.
Strong teams rarely need big changes. The value is in confirming what’s working, finding a few ways to make it even better and giving the Chief Stewardess a clear picture as the season goes on.
Tell us where you are and what you’re looking for, and we’ll take it from there.
